Deepfakes are fabricated multimedia contents that are alike to original ones. We have seen so many deep-fakes on the internet that are a synthesis of famous people like Barak Obama and other celebrities. In this article, I am going to discuss how deep-fakes can also be used for positive applications, and how we can make use of deep-fakes in such cases. Some of the applications of deep-fakes are:

  1. Preserving Anonymity

Using deep-fakes, we can preserve anonymity of person. For example, in some cases, media people might want to give voice to assaulted victims, activists, witnesses, and stigmatized groups while providing them safety.

2. Data Augmentation

Sometimes, data augmentation can help to boost the downstream machine learning model where data collection is difficult or data privacy needs to be maintained. For example, it can be a daunting and expensive task to collect data of some rare circumstance. In such case we can easily fabricate a data.

3. Entertainment and Business

Deepfakes can be used to enhance VR/AR technologies where we can enhance user experience and posibly change the entertainment industry. For example during COVID period, people can virtually visit public places like museums, galleries through their lens using VR technologies.
